Sapura Energy Bhd in a posting on its linkedin page on Mar 3 highlighted its aim to commercialise gas reserves from SK408 Phase 1 to fulfil Asia’s growing gas demand.

This is following the full ramp-up of first phase of SK408, hashtag#SapuraOMV’s production which is expected to increase to more than 30 kboe/d, with the majority being gas.

The SK408 gas field comprises five gas discoveries located in the Central Luconia gas province 120km offshore Sarawak, Malaysia. The five gas fields include Gorek, Larak, Bakong, Teja, and Legundi.

Located in shallow waters, the SK408 block covers a total area of 4,480km². The partners in the Block SK408 are Sapura Energy, PETRONAS Carigali and Sarawak Shell Bhd.

Sapura Energy is the developer and operator of the Larak and Bakong gas fields, while Sarawak Shell is the operator of the Gorek gas field.

First gas from the SK408 development was announced in January 2020, following the commissioning of the Larak gas field at the end of December 2019.

The development of the SK408 gas fields further strengthens Sapura Energy’s position in Malaysia as a significant partner and supplier of natural gas to one of the world's largest LNG production facilities, the PETRONAS MLNG complex in Bintulu.
