GEORGE TOWN (April 2): Thanks to the efforts of young Penang-born engineer, Louis Ooi, and his team, a face shield they have redesigned and invented, will be produced at a rate of 2,000 pieces per day, over a one-month period, for the benefit of healthcare workers at all Government hospitals and clinics in the State.

The RM60,000 cost of the initiative will be borne by the Penang Government, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow during a press conference aired live on Chow’s personal Facebook page today.

“The face shield which has been recognised by specialists at Hospital Pulau Pinang, is safer and easy to use, cheaper and easier to produce,” he said, while expressing his appreciation for the efforts of the young engineers whose talents have been nurtured through the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) platform, an initiative of the State Government under the Penang Science Cluster.

“In these difficult times, the spirit of togetherness and humanitarian efforts are clearly visible,” he added, while extending his thanks to all concerned.
