Perodua launches Ativa, prices range from RM58,650 to RM74,000
KUALA LUMPUR (March 3): Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) unveiled the Ativa in a virtual launch today.
The five-seater compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) retails for RM58,650 to RM74,000 (on-the-road price), and is available in three different variants (X, H and AV). Prices are dependent on the region of purchase and variant acquired.
This is Perodua’s second SUV after the Aruz, a seven-seater which was launched in 2019.
At a media preview and test drive for the new car last Tuesday, Perodua CEO Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the group is expecting 3,000 bookings a month for the Ativa.
He said the launch of the car had been three years in the making. He added that the Ativa will be its only new model for this year.
In terms of parts localisation, Zainal shared that 95% of the Ativa’s component value is local, the highest for a new Perodua model.
Noting that the Ativa is “between an A-segment and lower B segment car”, he said the car serves to fill the gap between its Myvi hatchback and the Aruz SUV.
“The Aruz is for a more mature customer who has a larger family. In the case of the Ativa, it is more towards a younger customer who has an active lifestyle and is on the go,” he said.
Zainal said the 3,000 monthly sales target for the new model was arrived at after taking into account possible migration of customers from the Aruz to the Ativa.
Zainal said Perodua’s 2021 production target of 272,000 vehicles this year included the 3,000 monthly sales target for the new car.
Among the new features in Perodua’s latest model are cruise control and lane-keep assist. It is built using Perodua’s Smart Build platform and is the fifth energy efficient vehicle in its range.
