KUALA LUMPUR (April 29): Based on corporate announcements and news flow on Friday, companies that may be in focus on Thursday (May 5) include Axiata Group Bhd, RHB Bank Bhd, YTL Corp Bhd, AEON Credit Service (M) Bhd, Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd, Sapura Energy Bhd, Digi.Com Bhd, Pestech International Bhd, Samaiden Group Bhd, Gadang Holdings Bhd, Eco World Development Group Bhd and Fitters Diversified Bhd.

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has announced the five successful applicants of digital bank licences, as approved by the Finance Minister. The five are: a consortium of Boost Holdings Sdn Bhd (owned by Axiata Group Bhd) and RHB Bank Bhd; a consortium led by GXS Bank Pte Ltd and Kuok Brothers Sdn Bhd; a consortium led by Sea Ltd and YTL Digital Capital Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of YTL Corp Bhd); a consortium of AEON Financial Service Co Ltd, its subsidiary AEON Credit Service (M) Bhd and MoneyLion Inc; and a consortium led by KAF Investment Bank Sdn Bhd. BNM said it received a total of 29 applications from companies and partnerships across different industries, with a mix of foreign and domestic applicants.

Trading in Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd securities will resume on May 9 after a six-month long suspension since Oct 22 last year. The stock was last traded at 35 sen on Oct 22 last year, down from RM1.61 in May when its audit issues were revealed to the public. Bursa Securities in a statement reminded the investing public to exercise caution and to make informed decisions when trading in the securities of Serba Dinamik.

Global integrated energy services and solutions provider Sapura Energy Bhd announced the appointment of Datuk Mohammad Azlan Abdullah as its new chairman effective May 7. He succeeds outgoing chairman Tan Sri Shamsul Azhar Abbas, who is retiring on the same day, upon reaching the age of 70. The former Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) president and chief executive officer (CEO) was appointed as Sapura Energy’s chairman on July 30, 2020.

Digi.Com Bhd's first-quarter net profit dropped to RM236.15 million from RM264.83 million a year earlier, as revenue declined on lower prepaid segment income and as the group registered a tax rate increase from 24% to 33% due to the implementation of Malaysia's one-off Cukai Makmur or Prosperity Tax for 2022. Group revenue fell to RM1.52 billion for the first quarter ended March 31, 2022 (1QFY22) from RM1.55 billion a year earlier. The mobile telecommunications network provider also declared its first interim tax-exempt dividend of 2.9 sen a share for FY22.

Pestech International Bhd announced that its subsidiary CRSE Sdn Bhd is assisting in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's investigation of a corruption case related to the Mass Rapid Transit 2 (MRT2) project. The Main Market-listed power infrastructure specialist is referring to various media reports on the investigation by the MACC into alleged corruption by two engineering firms involved in the MRT2 project. Pestech explained that CRSE is currently executing the power supply and distribution system (PSDS) package for MRT2.

Samaiden Group Bhd announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Samaiden Sdn Bhd has accepted a letter of award from Air Selangor Holdings Bhd's wholly-owned subsidiary Heliosel Sdn Bhd for a planned RM32.88 million development of a photovoltaic plant to convert sunlight to electricity at a water treatment plant in Selangor's Bestari Jaya town.

Gadang Holdings Bhd has secured subcontract works valued at RM90.4 million for Central Spine Road, Pakej 2. Gadang said its wholly-owned Gadang Engineering (M) Bhd secured the contract from Binary Vista Sdn Bhd to undertake pavement and road furniture works for the new highway.

Eco World Development Group Bhd’s wholly-owned Hasrat Budi Sdn Bhd is suing Entomo Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Raveenderen Ramamoothie and MYSJ Sdn Bhd — the operator of the MySejahtera application — for allegedly failing to meet specific performance of a put option.

Fitters Diversified Bhd has bagged sub-contract works amounting to RM9.3 million from Zalam Corp Sdn Bhd to provide fire protection services. The safety equipment manufacturer said its wholly-owned Fitters Engineering Services Sdn Bhd had received and accepted a letter of acceptance from Zalam to be appointed as the nominated sub-contractor to supply and install fire protection services, complete with testing and commission, as well as maintenance.
