Petronas’ 2022 Fortune Global 500 rises to 216 from 277 in 2021

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 2): Petroliam Nasional Bhd's (Petronas) 2022 Fortune Global 500 ranking rose to 216 from 277 in 2021, according to the latest updates on Fortune Media IP Ltd's website on Wednesday (Aug 3).

Petronas — the country’s only Fortune Global 500 company — has spent 26 years on the Fortune Global 500 ranking.  

The oil and gas company has a total assets of US$152.50 billion (approximately RM679.70 billion) and employs more than 46 thousand people across the globe as of last year, Fortune said.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s state-owned oil and natural gas corporation PT Pertamina ranked at 223, while Thailand’s state-owned oil company PTT Public Company Ltd is ranked at 177.  

Among the global energy companies, Russia’s Gazprom topped the list and ranked at 52, followed by Finnish state-owned energy company Fortum Oyj (ranking 56) and European electric utility company E.ON SE (ranking 112).

In a statement on Wednesday, Fortune announced that Walmart is ranked first again, for the ninth year running and the 17th time since 1995.

"Saudi Aramco (No. 6) reclaims its title as the world's most profitable company, with US$105 billion in earnings," it said.

The Fortune 500 companies is an annual list which ranks the top 500 corporations worldwide, as measured by revenue. It is published and compiled by Fortune magazine.

The top 10 list of Fortune Global 500 companies are as follows:

Walmart Inc, United States of America;

Amazon.com, United States of America;

The State Grid Corporation of China, China;

China National Petroleum, China;

Sinopec Group (China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation), China;

Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia;

Apple Inc, United States of America;

Volkswagen, Germany;

China State Construction Engineering, China;

CVS Health, United States of America.
