CAB (7174) - Chicken droppings to fuel CAB Cakaran biomass venture

Friday, 20 March 2015

KUALA LUMPUR: Poultry producer CAB Cakaran Corporation Bhd will use chicken droppings to fuel its proposed biomass power generation business.

It said on Friday it had inked an MoU with New Chemical Trading Co. Ltd from Japan and Seri Kedah Corporation Sdn Bhd to venture into the biomass project.

CAB Cakaran said the project would incinerate chicken droppings for the biomass project and also produce fertiliser as a by-product.

Under this MoU, New Chemical Trading and Seri Kedah would set up a JV company for the licensing of specific technology and know-how related to biomass power generation.

This JV will be responsible for the maintenance of the processing facilities and equipment, as well as marketing the fertiliser. The plant will be designed by Japan based Nangoku Kousan Co. Ltd.

Meanwhile, all three parties would set up another JV to focus on biomass power generation and sell the power produced. CAB Cakaran will hold 51%, while the other 49% will be held by Seri Kedah and New Chemical Trading.

CAB Cakaran said it would provide the JV companies with information on the poultry industry in Malaysia and relevant variables for the feasibility study.

As for Seri Kedah, it would provide the necessary grants, subsidies, business licenses and approvals in Malaysia.

It will also provide support for the approval or contracts from Sustainable Energy Development Authority Malaysia and Tenaga Nasional Bhd or other relevant authorities to run the biomass and solar photovoltaic power plant business.
