CIMB (1023) - CIMB aims to double mobile point of sales to 14,000

Wednesday, 1 April 2015

KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Group Holdings Bhd is aiming to double the mobile point of sales (mPOS) to 14,000 this year, as it continues to provide alternative solutions to its clients.

The service, also known as Plug n Pay, enables merchants to capture sales through their mobile phones or tablets. CIMB’s mPOS service was first launched in 2013.

Yesterday, the bank tied up with Prudential BSN Takaful Bhd (PruBSN) to enable customers to purchase takaful plans instantaneously.

PruBSN took up some 1,000 dongles under this partnership. According to CIMB group consumer banking chief executive officer (CEO) Renzo Christopher Viegas, the bank has deployed about 7,000 mPOS, including the tie-up with PruBSN.

“We will continue to provide innovative services to our clients to stay relevant as a bank,” said Viegas.

CIMB Group CEO Tengku Datuk Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the cost of the mPOS was a quarter of that compared with traditional terminals. Due to the lower cost of mPOS, he expects cashless transactions to improve, as it becomes more widely used.

The payment solutions provided is in line with Bank Negara’s target to improve cashless transaction per capita from 44 transactions to 200 transactions by 2020, Tengku Zafrul added.

The collaboration will further enhance the seamless closing of sales for PruBSN’s sales force.

PruBSN’s digital platform, PruBSN mobility, has recorded 48,000 takaful submissions, making up more than half of its total submissions since the platform was introduced slightly over a year ago.

PruBSN CEO Azim Mithani said the company had invested about RM1mil to build its digital platform and was reaping the benefits of improved efficiency. The takaful provider can save RM100,000 per year because of this.
