The Berjaya Corporation group of companies' history dates back to 1984 when our Founder, Tan Sri Dato' Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun acquired a major controlling stake in Berjaya Industrial Berhad (originally known as Berjaya Kawat Berhad and now known as Reka Pacific Berhad) from the founders, Broken Hill Proprietary Ltd, Australia and National Iron & Steel Mills, Singapore. The shareholding change also resulted in a major change in the business, direction and the dynamic growth of a diversified conglomerate under the flagship of Berjaya Corporation Berhad ("BCorp"). 
 
In October 1988, following a major restructuring, Berjaya Group Berhad (then known as Inter-Pacific Industrial Group Berhad) became the holding company of Reka Pacific Berhad. 
 
Inter-Pacific Industrial Group Berhad (formerly known as Raleigh Berhad) was incorporated in 1967 as a bicycle manufacturer. In 1969, the Company gained official listing on Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad (“Bursa Securities”). 
 
BCorp assumed the listing status of Berjaya Group Berhad on the Main Board of Bursa Securities upon the completion of the group restructuring exercise in October 2005 and the listing of the new shares on 3 January 2006.

  BJCORP (JAN) -  Berjaya Corp Bhd’s (BCorp) unit, BLoyalty Sdn Bhd has recently launched its customer rewards programme, B Infinite, a lifestyle-focused loyalty programme that introduces mobile payment to customers. In a statement, BCorp said with the introduction of mobile payment, mobile powered consumers on the B Infinite rewards programme now have greater control and convenience over their own rewarding experience. “We want to enhance our brick-and-mortar businesses with digital capabilities to meet the needs of mobile-powered consumers for today and the future. We believe that this will pave the way for BCorp’s sustained growth,” CEO Datuk Seri Robin Tan said in a statement.

BJCORP (JAN) -  Berjaya Roasters (M) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Berjaya Corp Bhd (BCorp), plans to open five Kenny Rogers Roasters (KRR) outlets in the Klang Valley this year.

BJCORP (JAN) -  THE automotive assembly business is a challenging field in Malaysia. This segment of the automtive industry is saddled with over-capacity issues to the extent that not many would want to put their money in assembly plants. But Berjaya group founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan is going against the tide. He is close to completing the takeover of Oriental Assemblers Sdn Bhd, a Johor-based manufacturer and distributor of auto parts and equipment, from the Oriental Group. The acquisition is done through Berjaya Assets Bhd, a company that is majority owned by Tan himself and not part of the Berjaya Group.

BJCORP (JAN) -  Coca-Cola Malaysia has renewed its contract to serve its beverages at Wendy’s® quick-service hamburger chain’s 10 outlets in Malaysia for another three years. The previous agreement was for five years beginning in 2012, which has now been renewed for three years until Dec 31, 2019. According to a joint statement by Coca-Cola Malaysia and Wendy’s today, it said diners will be able to enjoy a choice of Coca-Cola, Coke Zero, Sprite, Fanta Grape, Heaven and Earth Ice Lemon Tea and Minute Maid Refresh. Operated by Wen Berjaya Sdn Bhd, Wendy’s® Malaysia is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Berjaya Corp Bhd.

BJCORP (FEB) -  Berjaya Land Bhd has acquired 10 million shares or a 0.9% equity stake in 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd from Berjaya Retail Bhd via direct business transactions for a total cash consideration of RM14 million at RM1.40 per 7-Eleven Malaysia share.

BJCORP (FEB) -  Berjaya Land Bhd (BLand) is selling its entire 70% stake in four-star Long Beach Resort Phu Quoc in Vietnam to Sulyna Hospitality Hotel Restaurant Travel Service Co Ltd for VND333.25 billion (RM65.32 million) cash.

BJCORP (FEB) -  Vietnam’s revolutionary founder Ho Chi Minh relied on lottery ticket sales to raise money for schools and hospitals during the war years. Now Hanoi’s Communist leaders are looking to casinos, horse betting and modern lottery-ticket machines to do the same. So far this year, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has issued two decrees aimed at upping Vietnam’s game in the regional competition for gambling revenue while reducing the country’s growing budget deficit. A pilot plan to take effect in March will allow Vietnamese to gamble in the country’s casinos for the first time—currently only foreigners can. Another will allow bets nationwide on horse and dog races, as well as international soccer matches. This follows what officials call an “American-style” lottery started last year by the finance ministry in partnership with Malaysia’s Berjaya Corp.

BJCORP (MAR) -  Berjaya Food Bhd rocketed as much as 16 sen or 9% after RHB Research Institute Sdn Bhd upped its target price for Berjaya Food shares to RM2.41 from RM2.40, underpinned by Starbucks-driven earnings growth. Berjaya Food's website indicates that the company runs Starbucks Coffee outlets across Malaysia and Brunei. Berjaya Food also operates Kenny Rogers Roasters (KRR) outlets in Malaysia, Berjaya Food's website shows.

BJCORP (MAR) -  REDtone International Bhd leaped as much as five sen or 13% after the telecommunication specialist appointed Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim Ismail as chairman. Tunku Tun Aminah is Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ismail's daughter. Berjaya Corp Bhd has a 51.72% stake in REDtone, while Sultan Ibrahim owns 17.92%.

BJCORP (MAR) -  Bermaz Auto Bhd’s net profit fell 38.9% to RM25.1 million in its third quarter ended Jan 31, 2017 (3QFY17), from RM41.1 million a year ago, due to lower sales. Reduced performance from its associated companies and higher vehicle cost because of a weak ringgit, also caused net profit to fall but this was mitigated by a drop in operating expenses after measures were taken to cut it.

BJCORP (MAR) -  Berjaya Food Bhd (BFood) posted a 36.83% fall in net profit for the third quarter ended Jan 31, 2017 (3QFY17) to RM4.68 million or 1.25 sen per share, from RM7.4 million or 1.97 sen a year earlier. The company mentioned that the lower net profit was mainly due to losses incurred by Kenny Rogers Roasters chain operation as a result of weak consumer sentiment in Malaysia as well as higher write down of fixed assets arising from the closure of certain non-performing restaurants. Quarterly revenue, however, was up 11% to RM163.54 million from RM147.28 million a year ago on additional cafes operating in the current quarter.

BJCORP (MAR) -  Bermaz Auto Bhd’s (Bermaz) price revisions are expected bring margins uplift for its fourth quarter of financial year 2017 (4QFY17) onwards. The research arm of MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Bhd (MIDF Research) highlighted that from January 2017, Bermaz raised pricing across the board by RM2,500 to RM3,000, representing a two per cent to three per cent increase.

BJCORP (MAR) -  Berjaya Sports Toto Bhd's (BToto) net profit dropped 18% to RM47.94 million in the third quarter ended Jan 31, 2017 (3QFY17), from RM58.35 million in the previous year, mainly due to a goods and services tax adjustment and higher operating expenses. Revenue, however, grew 3.3% to RM1.37 billion versus RM1.32 billion a year ago. The company attributed revenue growth to higher seasonal sales during the Chinese New Year festive period.

BJCORP (MAR) -  Broadband and voice solutions provider REDtone International Bhd posted a net loss of RM3.62mil for its third quarter ending Jan 31, 2017 (3Q17). In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the Ace Market-listed company however said that the 3Q17 financial results could not be compared with the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.

BJCORP (MAR) -  Berjaya Land Bhd (BLand) posted a net profit of RM33.77 million for its financial quarter ended Jan 31, 2017 (3QFY17), against RM21.02 million in net loss in the same period the year before. It attributes the improved earnings to higher profit contributions from its property development and investment business, higher sales volume of certain car models from HR Owen and better earnings from its hotels and resorts business.

BJCORP (MAR) -  Berjaya Corp Bhd’s (BCorp) saw its net profit surged 44.6% to RM22.88mil in the third quarter ended Jan 31, 2017 compared with RM15.82mil in the same period last year. The group saw its revenue rose to RM2.22bil against RM2.16bil posted in the same corresponding period last year. Its earnings per share for the quarter rose to 0.47 sen versus 0.37 sen previously.

BJCORP (APR) -  Berjaya Assets Bhd’s (BAssets) wholly-owned unit Berjaya Times Square Sdn Bhd now holds 1.62% equity interest in 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd, after acquiring the stake from Berjaya Retail Bhd (BRetail). According to BAssets, the acquisition will enable it to invest in the convenience store segment under the 7-Eleven brand.

BJCORP (MAY) -  7-Eleven Malaysia Bhd is the first retailer in Malaysia to accept the Alipay mobile wallet payment, and looks to attract more Chinese tourists to shop at the convenience store chain.

BJCORP (MAY) -  Berjaya Assets Bhd (BJAsset) reported a net profit of RM179.9 million for the third quarter ended March 31, 2017 (3QFY17) — versus a net loss of RM2.5 million a year ago — largely thanks to favourable fair value changes of its investment properties that amounted to RM28 million.

BJCORP (JUN) -  Berjaya Food Bhd (BFood) fell into the red for the first time in its fourth quarter ended April 30, 2017 (4QFY17), with a net loss of RM3.37 million or 90 sen a share, as it undertook an impairment exercise in the face of a slowing economy. It netted a profit of RM3.17 million or RM1.05 sen a share in the same quarter a year ago.

BJCORP (JUN) -  Berjaya Sports Toto Bhd’s (BToto) principal subsidiary Sports Toto Malaysia Sdn Bhd is setting up a medium-term notes (MTN) programme of up to RM800mil in nominal value.

BJCORP (JUN) -  Berjaya Sports Toto Bhd (BToto) reported a 30% drop in its net profit to RM72.49 million for the fourth quarter ended April 30, 2017 (4QFY17), from RM104.71 million a year earlier, dragged mainly by its gaming operations in both Malaysia and the Philippines. Consequently, earnings per share slid to 5.38 sen in the latest quarter, compared to 7.7 sen a year ago. Revenue was marginally lower at RM1.47 billion versus RM1.48 billion last year. The company declared a fourth interim dividend payment of 3 sen per share for the financial year ended April 30, 2017 (FY17).

BJCORP (JUN) -  Berjaya Media Bhd (BMedia) has slipped into PN17 (Practice Note 17) following its latest quarterly results. In the fourth quarter ended April 30, BMedia’s net loss widened to RM14mil against RM3.5mil net loss a year ago. Its revenue for the period rose to RM9.07mil from RM8.54mil previously.  For the full financial year ended April 30, BMedia’s net loss stood at RM21.12mil on revenue of RM42.7mil.

BJCORP (JUN) -  Berjaya Land Bhd (BLand) posted a net profit of RM88.57 million in its fourth quarter ended April 30, 2017 (4QFY17), compared with a net loss of RM458.58 million a year ago, as it recorded significantly lower investment-related expenses This marks its third profitable quarter in a row, after the group returned to the black in 1QFY17.

BJCORP (JUN) -  Berjaya Corp Bhd (BCorp) posted a net profit of RM3.24 millon for the fourth financial quarter ended April 30, 2017 (4QFY17), a stark contrast to a net loss of RM368.91 million a year ago due to impairment in value of goodwill of RM473.2 million plus and assets held for sale relating to Berjaya (China) Great Mall Co Ltd of RM131.81 million. Quarterly revenue came in at RM2.23 billion, which was 10% lower from the RM2.48 billion it recorded a year ago. BCorp said the drop in revenue was caused by lower contributions from the property investment and development business segment.

BJCORP (AUG) -  Berjaya Assets Bhd (BAssets) is currently in talks with an Asian automotive brand to manufacture and assemble its cars under BAsset’s unit Oriental Assemblers Sdn Bhd.

BJCORP (AUG) -  Berjaya Assets Bhd said it will be making an announcement on a potential venture with a foreign automaker within the next six months, to expand its automotive segment following the acquisition of Oriental Holdings Sdn Bhd (OASB).

BJCORP (AUG) -  Berjaya Assets Bhd (BAssets) is looking to raise close to RM1bil via the equity markets to fund reclamation works for its 55-acre piece of land in Johor Baru, although the timeline is still fluid.

BJCORP (AUG) -  Berjaya Hotels & Resorts Sdn Bhd (BHR) is partnering Hong Kong start-up Tink Labs Ltd to become the first hotel operator in Malaysia to feature the latter's flagship smartphone 'Handy' in all its hotel rooms. BHR, the hospitality arm of the Berjaya Group, aims to have a Handy smartphone in all its Berjaya Times Square Hotel Kuala Lumpur by end-August. BHR is a unit of Berjaya Land Bhd.

BJCORP (AUG) -  Berjaya Philippines Inc, which is 88.26%-owned by Berjaya Sports Toto Bhd (BToto), has filed an injunction to bar the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) from carrying out a public bidding that may violate its exclusive right to supply and lease lottery equipment to PCSO in the Luzon territory.

BJCORP (SEP) -  Berjaya Corporation Bhd is disposing of its entire 100% equity interest in China-based Berjaya Green Resources Environmental Engineering (Foshan) Co Ltd (BGREE) for 78.5 million renminbi (RM50.87 million).

BJCORP (SEP) -  Berjaya Food Bhd's net profit for the first quarter ended July 31, 2017 (1QFY18) rose 7% to RM5.34 million from RM5 million last year, mainly due to having more cafes in operation. Earnings per share grew to 1.43 sen per share from 1.32 sen per share. Quarterly revenue rose 9% year-on-year to RM154.39 million from RM141.37 million

BJCORP (SEP) -  Berjaya Sports Toto Bhd’s (BToto) net profit  grew 26.5% to RM74.3 million, or 5.51 sen per share, for the first quarter of financial year ended July 31 (1QFY18) from RM58.7 million or 4.36 sen per share in the previous corresponding quarter. The higher earnings were boosted by improved results of luxury car dealer H.R. Owen Plc (HR Owen), in which BToto holds an effective 86.8% stake, and foreign exchange gain recognized by a foreign subsidiary company in the financial quarter under review. For the current quarter, the group’s revenue edged higher by 2.5% to RM1.47 billion from RM1.44 billion. The board has declared a first interim dividend of four sen per share in respect of the financial year ending April 30, 2018 (FY18) and payable on Oct 24. The ex-date for the dividend payment is Oct 6.

BJCORP (SEP) -  Berjaya Group founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan has upped his indirect stake in 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd to 41.3% from 40.39% earlier. The 7-Eleven said Tan bought 1.01 million shares, representing 0.91% stake in the company, via Sublime Cartel Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned unit of Berjaya Asset Bhd on Sept 21 via the open market. The acquisition brings Tan's deemed interest in the company to 458.62 million shares or a 41.3% stake. The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, has also bought an additional 0.26% stake in 7-Eleven between Sept 13 and 20, which resulted in his total direct shareholding increasing to 108.03 million shares or a 9.28% stake.

BJCORP (SEP) -  Berjaya Land Bhd(BLand) returned to the black with a net profit of RM11.53mil for the first quarter ended July 31, 2017, after posting a net loss of RM27.24mil in the same quarter last year.

BJCORP (SEP) -  Berjaya Media Bhd (BMedia), which saw its first-quarter net loss narrow by 29.8% year-on-year, has been exploring options, including diversifying into new businesses outside the media sector to strengthen the financial position of the group, with the key objective to regularise its Practice Note 17 (PN17) condition.

BJCORP (SEP) -  Prominent tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun has sold 80 million shares or a 6.7% stake in Berjaya Assets Bhd (BAssets) off-market, on Wednesday (Sept 27).

BJCORP (OCT) -  Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, who in August emerged as the second largest shareholder in 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd, has become the second biggest individual shareholder in another Berjaya group member, Berjaya AssetsBhd (BAssets). This follows his acquisition of 80 million shares in BAssets - which owns and manages Berjaya Times Square - boosting his stake to 10.09% or 120 million shares.

BJCORP (OCT) -  Berjaya Land Bhd (BLand) sold 10 million shares or a 0.9% stake in 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd for RM14.9 million or RM1.49 per share.

BJCORP (NOV) -  Berjaya Corp Bhd (BCorp) founder and adviser Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun is taking back the reins as executive chairman of the group today after relinquishing the position on Feb 23, 2012. He will take over the position from his son Datuk Seri Robin Tan Yeong Ching, 43, who will continue to remain as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the group.
