KUALA LUMPUR: Permaju Industries Bhd and Focus Dynamics Group Bhd have teamed up to open a state-of-the-art digital retail concept electric vehicle (EV) showroom at The Arch here.
Permaju Industries' wholly-owned Cergaz Autohaus Sdn Bhd today signed a collaboration and tenancy agreement with Focus Dynamics Centre Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Focus Dynamics, for the venture.
"In light of the recent Budget 2022 announcement on EV, this venture is timely in its nature and hopes to accelerate the introduction of more luxury and premium EV motor vehicles, as well as promoting free carbon emission and green-friendly environment," the companies said.
Permaju executive director Tang Boon Koon said it was astonished by the vibrant EV business of Tesla and Elon Musk.
"Last month, Tesla's market capitalisation breached US$1 trillion, the sixth company to do so in US history and Elon Musk became the richest person in the world as of this month with a net worth of US$316.5 billion.
"For a start, we mimic their footsteps with the openingof the new state-of-the-art digital retail concept EV showroom in the heart of the international financial district, TRX in the capital of Kuala Lumpur."
This was an important part of Permaju's strategic growth plan in promoting free carbon emission and green-friendly environment and sustainability, Tang added.
"With this new retail concept, the EV showroom willtransform from a traditional predominantly product-centric into a digital retail concept with customer-focused brandexperience.
"The EV showroom will offer enhanced retail customer experience with touch-screens which will bring products and services alive in an interactive manner. The entire sales and order process can be completed electronically, including E-signature and online payment," he said.
Tang said the new EV showroom will showcase more than 10 luxury and premium EV comprising variety of marquee brands such as Porsche, Tesla, Rivian, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Jaguar.
The company will install and manage 50 parking lots with dedicate EV DC fast charging ports and may increase to 100 parking lots when the need and demand arises.
The government had on Oct 29 announced, under the 2022 Budget, a full exemption of import and excise duties as well as sales tax and road tax for EV.
There will also be individual income tax relief of up to RM2,500 given for the purchase and installation, rental and hire-purchase of EV as well as payment of EV charging facility subscription fees.
As such, Permaju said it ventured into the luxury and premium EV business to capitalise on the potential opportunity and enjoy first mover advantage when the new EV policy is implemented.
Tang said its next step is to venture into semi knocked down to manufacture EV motor vehicles in Malaysia in 2023.
It is currently in discussion with several potential manufacturers in China to form a strategic partnership.
"We want to be the Tesla of Asean," Tang said.
