Small cap stocks dominate gainers list on Bursa

Friday, 13 March 2015

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s FBM KLCI ended Friday’s morning session almost flat in the absence of fresh positive catalysts to spur buying interest as the ringgit again weakened against the US dollar.

What was noticeable was that smaller capitalised stocks or thinly-traded counters were among the top gainers. The broader market was mixed.

At 12.30pm, the KLCI was up just 0.06 point to 1,8786.93. Turnover was 1.45 billion shares valued at RM714.78mil – which saw trading interest focus on small cap and penny stocks. There were 333 gainers to 382 gainers while 297 counters were unchanged.

Reuters reported Asian shares shook off early losses on Friday, underpinned by gains on Wall Street, while the dollar rebounded from a pause to its recent rally after disappointing US retail sales data.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up about 0.1% on the day. It was well off seven-week lows plumbed earlier in the week but still on track for a weekly loss of around 2%.
